Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground chicken
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 buns for serving

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil.
  • Add the diced onion and cook until tender, about 6 minutes.
  • Then, add the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  • Add the ground chicken to the skillet and cook until it is no longer pink, about 6 minutes more.
  • Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Simmer the mixture until it thickens and becomes saucy, about 5 minutes.
  • Top the mixture with shredded mozzarella cheese and cover the skillet with a lid to melt the cheese, about 2 minutes.
  • Serve the cheesy chicken sloppy joe mixture on buns and enjoy!
