Get creative with this not-so-ordinary French toast by trying different kinds of jelly or flavored syrups. Serve with fresh fruit and your favorite juice.
Ingredients
Makes 4 servings

- 8 white sandwich bread slices
- 4 teaspoons creamy peanut butter
- 4 teaspoons grape jelly
- 2 large eggs
- ΒΌ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- Dash of ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
- Powdered sugar
Instructions
- Spread each of 4 bread slices with 1 teaspoon peanut butter.
- Spread each of remaining bread slices with 1 teaspoon grape jelly; place on top of slices with peanut butter.
- Stir together eggs and next 3 ingredients in a shallow dish.
- Melt butter on a griddle over medium heat.
- Dip sandwiches into egg mixture, evenly coating both sides.
- Cook sandwiches 4 minutes on each side or until golden.
- To serve, cut sandwiches in half diagonally, and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- Serve immediately.
Notes & Wine Advice
If using a large nonstick skillet instead of a griddle, melt butter and cook sandwiches in batches.
