Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup lard or vegetable shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. nutmeg
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1 cup nuts chopped

Instructions

  • Cream together the sugar, shortening, eggs, milk, and vanilla.
  • Stir dry ingredients together.
  • Combine dry ingredients with creamed mixture, blending thoroughly.
  • Drop by teaspoonsful onto greased cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 350° for 12–15 minutes.
