Press the tofu thoroughly before marinating so it absorbs more of the ginger-lime mixture. Extra-firm tofu works best because it remains firm enough to turn on the grill. Allow at least 1 hour for marinating for the best flavor.Variations
Add crushed chilli flakes or finely chopped fresh chilli for extra heat. Garlic adds a stronger savoury note, while a little maple syrup creates a sweeter glaze. Fresh cilantro can be scattered over the grilled tofu immediately before serving.Storage
Store leftover grilled tofu in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat it briefly in a frying pan or on the grill. The tofu can also be served cold in salads, wraps and grain bowls.Wine Advice
A crisp Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with the fresh lime and ginger. Its lively acidity complements the citrus marinade without overpowering the tofu. A dry Riesling is another refreshing choice, particularly for a summer barbecue.Nutrition values

About Zesty Ginger Lime Grilled Tofu
Zesty Ginger Lime Grilled Tofu turns a simple block of extra-firm tofu into a fresh and flavorful grilled main course. Lime juice provides bright acidity, fresh ginger adds warmth and tamari supplies the savory umami character that tofu absorbs particularly well.
Why Pressing the Tofu Matters
Extra-firm tofu still contains considerable moisture. Pressing removes some of this water and allows the marinade to penetrate more effectively. It also creates a firmer texture that is easier to handle on the grill. Browse our Vegetable Recipes for more plant-based inspiration.
Building the Ginger Lime Marinade
Fresh lime juice supplies acidity, ginger adds aromatic warmth and tamari provides savory depth. Extra-virgin olive oil helps distribute the flavors and promotes browning. Discover more ideas in our Marinade Recipes.
Getting Tofu Right on the Grill
Use a properly preheated grill and allow the tofu to develop a golden surface before turning it. This reduces sticking and creates attractive grill marks. For more outdoor cooking inspiration, browse our Barbecue Recipes.
