Ingredients

  • ½ cup 72 g vital wheat gluten flour
  • 2 tbsp. 16 g nutritional yeast
  • ½ tsp fine sea salt
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp mild to medium chili powder
  • ½ tsp dried minced onion or ¼ tsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp. 30 ml water
  • 2 tbsp. 30 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. 34 g ketchup
  • 1 tbsp. 15 ml canola oil

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, combine the vital wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, salt, cumin, cayenne, paprika, chili powder, and onion.
  • Stir in the water, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, and canola oil.
  • Use your fingertips to crumble the mixture.
  • Heat a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
  • Fry the crumbles for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and crispy.
