Serving Suggestions
Serve the wedges hot as a snack or side dish. They pair particularly well with grilled chicken, burgers, fish, vegetable skewers, or a fresh salad. For dipping, try garlic mayonnaise, avocado dip, sour cream, or a cooling yogurt sauce.Recipe Notes
Cut the sweet potatoes into wedges of similar thickness so they cook evenly. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket because good air circulation helps the surfaces become golden rather than soft and steamed. The salt mixture is deliberately placed in the air fryer only during the final few minutes. This gently dries the fresh lime zest and intensifies its citrus aroma without allowing it to burn.Variations
Reduce the crushed red pepper flakes for a milder version or increase them for additional heat. Smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, or a little cayenne pepper can also be added to the seasoning. Lemon zest can replace the lime zest for a different citrus flavour.Storage and Reheating
Store leftover wedges in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) until thoroughly hot and crisp again. A microwave will warm them but will produce a considerably softer texture.Wine Advice
A chilled Riesling works well with the sweetness of the potatoes, fresh lime, and chilli heat. An aromatic Gewürztraminer is another good choice, particularly when you make the seasoning a little spicier.Nutrition values

About Chilli Lime Sweet Potato Wedges
Chilli Lime Sweet Potato Wedges turn a handful of simple ingredients into a colourful side dish with sweetness, citrus freshness, salt, and gentle heat. Sweet potatoes develop soft, almost creamy centres in the air fryer while their exposed edges become golden. A finishing mixture of lime zest, flaky salt, and crushed red pepper gives them a completely different character from ordinary fries. They fit naturally into both the Potatoes and Vegetables collections.
Why Sweet Potatoes Work in the Air Fryer
Sweet potatoes contain natural sugars that encourage browning when exposed to high heat. Cooking the wedges at 400°F (204°C) helps develop golden edges while allowing enough time for the centres to soften. A light coating of olive oil improves browning and prevents the surfaces from becoming dry.
The Airfryer is particularly convenient for wedges because the circulating hot air reaches several surfaces at once. Turning the potatoes halfway through cooking exposes the opposite sides and encourages more even colour. Keeping some space between the wedges is equally important because an overcrowded basket traps moisture.
The Lime-Pepper Salt
The finishing seasoning is what distinguishes these wedges. Fresh lime zest provides a fragrant citrus flavour without adding liquid to the potatoes. Crushed red pepper flakes bring heat, while salt flakes provide both seasoning and a slight textural contrast.
Placing the seasoning mixture in the air fryer for the final three minutes gently dries the lime zest. This concentrates its aroma and allows it to mix more effectively with the salt and chilli. Because citrus zest can burn when exposed to high temperatures for too long, it should only go into the air fryer near the end.
Getting Golden Wedges
Uniform cutting makes a noticeable difference. If some wedges are very thick and others thin, the smaller pieces can become overly dark before the larger pieces are tender. Aim for wedges of approximately equal thickness and check them toward the lower end of the cooking range.
Air fryer models differ in power and basket design, so 15 to 20 minutes should be treated as a practical cooking window rather than an exact rule. The finished wedges should be tender when pierced with a knife and browned around their thinner edges.
Serving Chilli Lime Sweet Potato Wedges
These wedges make an easy Side Dish for grilled chicken, fish, burgers, vegetable dishes, or sandwiches. They can also be served as a Snack with one or more dipping sauces.
The lime and chilli combination makes them especially useful for a Barbecue. While food cooks outside on the grill, the sweet potatoes can cook separately in the air fryer. This also avoids filling valuable grill space with a side dish when several foods are being prepared at once.
Adjusting the Flavour
The recipe is easy to customise without changing the basic cooking method. For less heat, reduce the red pepper flakes. For a smokier version, add smoked paprika. Cumin gives the wedges a warmer earthy flavour, while garlic powder makes the seasoning more savoury.
The amount of salt can also be reduced considerably if preferred. Two tablespoons of salt flakes produces a strongly seasoned finish, and you do not necessarily need to use all of the prepared lime-pepper salt. Sprinkle it over the wedges gradually and stop when they are seasoned to your taste.
Storage and Food Safety
Sweet potato wedges are at their best directly from the air fryer, when the exterior is still hot and the edges retain their texture. Leftovers can be refrigerated in a covered container for up to three days. Reheating them in the air fryer is preferable to microwaving because dry circulating heat helps restore some of their original texture.
Cooked vegetables should be refrigerated promptly after the meal rather than being left at room temperature for extended periods. For current recommendations about safely storing and reheating prepared foods, consult the U.S. Food and Drug Administration food-safety guidance.
With crisp golden edges, soft centres, fragrant lime, and a controlled kick of chilli, Chilli Lime Sweet Potato Wedges are a simple way to give everyday sweet potatoes considerably more character. They require very little preparation and work equally well as a casual snack, barbecue accompaniment, or colourful vegetable side dish.
