Fragrant homemade cinnamon ornaments created from applesauce and ground cinnamon. These decorative ornaments are intended for crafting and must not be eaten.
Add the applesauce and ground cinnamon to a mixing bowl.
Mix until a firm, evenly combined dough forms.
Add a little extra cinnamon if the dough remains sticky.
Place the dough between two sheets of parchment paper.
Roll the dough to approximately 6 mm thick.
Remove the upper sheet of parchment paper.
Cut 4 ornaments from the dough with cookie cutters.
Use a skewer or drinking straw to make a hanging hole near the top of each ornament.
Transfer the ornaments to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Leave the ornaments to air-dry for 3 to 4 days.
Turn the ornaments several times during drying so both sides dry evenly.
Allow them to dry completely before threading them with ribbon.
Use the finished ornaments only as decorations and do not eat them.
Notes & Wine Advice
Serving Suggestions
These ornaments are not intended for serving or eating. Thread completely dried ornaments with ribbon and hang them on a Christmas tree, wreath, garland, gift package, or seasonal display.
Recipe Notes
This is a decorative craft rather than an edible recipe. Clearly label the ornaments as non-edible, especially when children or pets are present. Avoid breathing in cinnamon dust while mixing, and wash hands after handling the dough. The number of ornaments depends on the size of the cutters and the thickness of the rolled dough.
Variations
Decorate the dried ornaments with fabric ribbon, nontoxic craft paint, glitter glue, or small beads. Star, heart, tree, gingerbread-person, and snowflake cutters are especially suitable for Christmas decorations.
Storage
Allow the ornaments to dry completely before storing them. Wrap each ornament in tissue paper and keep them in a dry, airtight container away from heat and moisture. Discard ornaments that become mouldy, damp, cracked, or damaged.
Wine Advice
No wine pairing applies because these ornaments must not be consumed. Adults may enjoy a wine selected from Renés Wijnbeleving separately after completing the craft.
