Fresh zucchini pesto is a light and creamy alternative to traditional basil pesto. Steamed zucchini, Parmesan, garlic, basil, parsley, and olive oil create a versatile sauce for pasta, sandwiches, vegetables, or dipping.
Steam the zucchini for 6–8 minutes or until tender.
Drain the zucchini thoroughly and allow it to cool for 5 minutes.
Gently press out any excess moisture.
Add the zucchini, garlic, basil, parsley, Parmesan, olive oil, salt, and black pepper to a food processor.
Process until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
Taste and adjust the salt and black pepper if needed.
Serve immediately or refrigerate until required.

Serving Suggestions
Serve this zucchini pesto with pasta, spread it over toasted bread, add it to sandwiches, or use it as a dip for raw vegetables. It also works well with dishes from our Pizza Recipes, Lunch Recipes, and Vegetarian Recipes.
Recipe Notes
Drain the steamed zucchini thoroughly before blending. Excess water can make the sauce thin and dilute its flavor. Letting the zucchini cool briefly also prevents the basil and parsley from losing their fresh color. Explore our Sauce Recipes for more homemade alternatives to packaged sauces.
Variations
Add toasted pine nuts or walnuts for a more traditional pesto texture. Replace Parmesan with a plant-based alternative for a dairy-free version, or add lemon juice for extra freshness. For more serving inspiration, browse our Dips Recipes and Side Dish Recipes.
Wine Advice
A crisp Pinot Grigio complements the delicate zucchini and fresh herbs. A dry Sauvignon Blanc is another suitable choice because its lively acidity balances the Parmesan and olive oil.
