Ingredients

brown sugar

lard or vegetable shortening

vanilla

baking soda

buttermilk
▢

baking powder
▢

cups
flour
▢
½
cup
nuts
chopped (optional)
Instructions
Cream together sugar and shortening.
Mix in vanilla and eggs thoroughly.
Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk.
Stir baking powder into flour.
Add milk and flour mixture alternately to the creamed mixture.
Stir in nuts.
Refrigerate overnight or for several hours.
Drop by teaspoonsful onto greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 400° for 8–10 minutes.
