Warm Spiced Red Wine Poached Pears

Ingredients

Instructions
In a large saucepan, combine red wine, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, orange zest and juice, and lemon zest and juice.
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
Add the pear halves to the simmering liquid.
Reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 25-30 minutes, or until pears are tender but still firm.
Remove pears from the liquid and set aside.
Increase heat to medium-high and simmer the poaching liquid for 10-15 minutes, or until it reduces and thickens slightly.
Pour the reduced liquid over the pears.
Serve warm.

Serving Tip:
Serve warm with a dollop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Wine Advice:
The same red wine used for poaching, or a sweet dessert wine like a late-harvest Gewürztraminer.
